Fatherland is the true story of an eighteen-year-old son who turned in his father to the the FBI because of his dad's role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Every word of Fatherland comes from court evidence, public statements, and the official court transcript of The United States vs. Guy Wesley Reffitt, the jury trial held before the United States District Court, District of Columbia, from February 28 - March 8, 2022.

The Concept

The primary inspiration for the Fatherland key art came from modern political ads/articles and newspaper headline clippings. It was meant to feel polarizing and fast-paced. We wanted to convey the political nature of it, but stray from having it feel overly “rah-rah USA,” so we used orange instead of red, white, and blue. We also liked that the cutout shapes/images would lend themselves nicely to other branding materials across social media, our website, and printed materials.
